Glacier World Map charts the glaciers of the world — valley glaciers, icefields and the shrinking remnants high in mountain ranges — making visible a part of the landscape that is changing faster than almost any other.

Glaciers come from OpenStreetMap's `natural=glacier` tag, mapped from survey and satellite data. Glacier travel demands proper equipment and experience: this map shows where ice is, never that it's safe to walk on.

Glacier World Map è creato e mantenuto da Emil Björk, sviluppatore indipendente con base in Svezia. Il sito nasce dalla passione per mappe, viaggi e dati aperti; professionalmente viene dalla consulenza informatica.

Come funziona

Every point is fetched from the OpenStreetMap Overpass API, deduplicated, tagged by country and stored as a static GeoJSON file — no database, instant to load. Click any point to see a description from Wikipedia, a photo from Wikimedia Commons (or Mapillary as a fallback) and, where available, its Google rating.

Aggiornamento dei dati

The dataset is automatically refreshed once a month from OpenStreetMap via a scheduled GitHub Action, so the map stays current as the world is mapped.
